JARNO TRULLI
AND THE TOYOTA TF109
The rise of Jarno Trulli
Jarno Trulli began his Formula 1 career in 1997 and quickly became known for his exceptional qualifying talent. He drove for several teams, including Minardi, Prost and Jordan, where he achieved his first podium. In 2004 he moved to Toyota, a partnership that would lead to some of the best performances of his career.
Toyota's final season in Formula 1
In 2009, Trulli drove for his sixth year with Toyota, which also proved to be the team’s final season in Formula 1. The TF109, Toyota’s engineering masterpiece, took Trulli to the podium in both Bahrain and Japan. His second place at Suzuka and pole position in Bahrain showed the class and potential of the car.
The Power of the Toyota TF109
Powered by a 2.4-litre V8 engine producing 700bhp, the Toyota TF109 was a model of power and innovation. Its light weight and aerodynamic refinement made it a serious podium contender. Trulli’s performance in this car underlined both his talent and Toyota’s technical strength.
Trulli’s Performance in Bahrain and Japan
Trulli’s pole position at the 2009 Bahrain Grand Prix was one of his highlights with Toyota. Although he didn’t win the race, he still finished third, an important podium finish for the team. Later in the season, he took second place at Suzuka, which was not only important for Toyota, but also for his own legacy in the sport.
Toyota’s exit from Formula 1
After the 2009 season, Toyota decided to withdraw from Formula 1. Despite a successful seven-year run, during which they achieved 13 podium finishes, economic challenges forced them to pull the plug on their F1 programme. Trulli’s contribution to the team was crucial, and he left Toyota as one of their most respected drivers.

After his time at Toyota, Trulli drove for Lotus for a short period, but in 2011 he retired from Formula 1. His career included over 250 starts, one win and 11 podium finishes, establishing him as one of the most respected drivers of his generation.
A new start for Toyota in 2026
