From childhood dream to lifelong passion: Ig and his green Djet
For Ig de Bakker it all began in 1965, when he saw a picture of a dark green Katra Bonnet Djet in a magazine. It was love at first sight. As a teenager he would cycle from Westland to The Hague to admire such a Djet in real life. By helping to wash the car he wouldevery now and again be given a passenger ride – every car lover’s dream.
His passion for the French sports car never faded. For over 20 years Ig drove a Djet of his own. And the car from his teens? It is still in existance and is owned by a good friend of Ig’s.
Ig, also known as “Monsieur Matra”, has grown up to be an expert on classic sports and racing cars made by the smaller manufacturers. Since 2021 he has been sharing his knowledge and passion as a volunteer and quadrilingual tour guide in the Louwman Museum. A childhood dream that grew into an inspiring life story.
