Turcat-Méry
Lithography on paper
This poster by an unknown artist paints the picture of an ideal summer drive along the coast on a sunny day. With Marseille and the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde in the backdrop, the automobile effortlessly transports its three passengers at high speed up hill.
Turcat- Méry was a French motor manufacturer from 1899 – 1928, founded by Alphonse Méry, Simon Méry and Léon Turcat. They were celebrated for winning the inaugural Monte Carlo Rally, known for their Grand Prix racing and for producing The Car of the Connoisseur. High speed was in their veins and Marseille was their home, hence the references in the poster. Also note the underlying advertisement for Dunlop tyres.
