Etching on paper
Louis Justin Laurent Icart was a prolific French painter, graphic artist and illustrator greatly influenced by the French masters of the 18th century, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Edgar Degas and Claude Monet to name but a few. He depicted life in Paris and New York in the 1920s and 1930s and had a particular passion for (sensual) women in his art. He is considered to be one of France’s most prominent Art Deco artists
This image was created for use as a lamp shade, hence the typical form of the artwork. His usage of red as a dominant color is characteristic of Icart’s art.
