RAI Automobiel Tentoonstelling 1928
Lithography on paper
The RAI Association, in full ‘The Dutch Association for the Bicycle and Automobile Industry’ was founded on 17 December 1893 by bicycle manufacturers. What started as the RI, the ‘Rijwiel Industrie’ (‘The Bicycle Industry’) soon developed into the RAI in 1900, the ‘Rijwiel en Automobiel Industrie’ (‘The Bicycle and Automobile Industry’).
The RAI exhibition was a centralized, yearly, national forum for the promotion of bicycles and automobiles. The RAI 1928 exhibition illustrated in the poster by an unknown artist was held in the RAI’s own building on the Ferdinand Bolstraat in Amsterdam. The artist has created a sense of vastness in the exhibition hall that at the time measured 13,000 m2. The artist’s use of colour enhances the depth of the illustration.
