Pneus Jenatzy
Lithography on paper
In this work, Georges Gaudy interprets Camille ‘Red Devil’ Jenatzy winning the 1903 Gordon Bennet Race on Jenatzy tyres (pneus), but in fact, Jenatzy won his famous land speed record on Continental Tyres.
Gaudy was a magazine illustrator, poster artist, etcher and decorator as well as a member of the Société des Aquafortistes Belges and the Cercle Artistique et Littéraire de Bruxelles. He was an accomplished cyclist and race-car driver who could accurately incorporate speed and motion in his work. Gaudy was also a very philosophical man, who once suggested that “modern speed alters one’s traditional notion of time.”
The lithograph was printed by J.E. Goossens in Brussels and Lille.
