Alexis Kow (Kojewnikow) was a Russian artist who studied at the Technical College of Arts and Crafts in Geneva. He caught the automobile bug from his Swiss host family after he cut ties with his native Russia during the revolution of 1917. His first job was in the design office of a coachbuilder in Levallois. He was soon known for his perfect perspective as a draftsman and started his own art studio.
From 1922 on, Kow started to design art deco inspired illustrations for Panhard et Levassor (1886 – 1967). His illustrations were exceptional in their use of full scenery shots or the simplicity of powerful lines. He also worked for Englebert tires, Peugeot and Air France, to name but a few.
