Kay Petre (1903-1994)-caricature
Kay Petre was born in Canada. She quite successfully raced Austins, Invicta, a Bugatti and the ex-Cobb 10.5 litre Delage. In 1937 she had a serious crash at the Brooklands track when her Austin was hit by Parnell’s MG Magnette. She suffered severe head injuries and had to retire from racing. Later she worked as a journalist.
These caricatures were drawn by Frederick Gordon Crosby in 1935. The racing drivers shown were well-known to the British racing enthusiasts of that era, particularly due to their performances at the Brooklands track and major events on the continent.
