IVme Course Internationale du Klausen 1925
Lithography on paper
Karel Bickel was a Swiss engraver, sculptor, painter and graphic designer. He trained as a lithographer and stereotype designer with Paul Bleuer in Zürich and attended the Zürich University of the Arts. In 1908 he opened his own graphic design studio in Zürich. He designed posters often with other graphic designers focusing on fashion catalogues and posters for cultural events. From 1923 on, after an artistic sabbatical in Italy, he was an engraver for the Swiss postal services. His artistic work displays a field of tension between monumentalism and microscopic precision.
The International Klausen Pass race in Switzerland was run ten times between 1922 and 1934. The course was 21,5 kilometers (about 13,3 miles) long and started in Linthal (Canton Glarus) and finished at the top of the Klausen Pass (Canton Uri).
