Grande Semaine D’Aviation Caen 1910
Lithography on paper
Two women wearing grey dresses with white billowing scarves observe from the top of the Saint-Pierre church in Caen two aeroplanes (including a Farman) and a hot air ballon in the glow of the orange yellow sunset above the Abbaye-aux-Hommes. The Caen Aviation Society (1909 – 1910), located at 10 Rue de Bernières in Caen, was created especially for the organization of this event.
One can feel the sense of freedom in this poster, the freedom to fly as high as a bird and soar through the skies. This idea is echoed by the wind in the scarves of the onlookers, high up in the spire of the church and by the bird that flies with the aeroplanes.
