Lithography on paper
Géo Ham (Georges Hamel) was a French painter and illustrator. In 1918 he attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and in 1931 Ham was appointed as Official Peintre de l’Air. Ham is known for his illustrations of automobiles, motorcycles, aeroplanes and boats which appeared in “L’Illustration” (the first international illustrated magazine in France). Ham’s work is defined by his clean-cut lines and eye for detail.
The Grand Prix Automobile de Paris or Coupe de Paris was one of the most prestigious car race events in France that started in 1939 and was held at the Autodrome de Linas – Montlhéry in Essonne and in the Bois de Boulogne near Paris. The race was part of the Grand Prix seasons between 1939 and 1949. Ham’s use of a dominant blue and clean-cut lines catches the eye and triggers our racing imagination and the suggestion of speed.
