Cottereau & Cie Dijon

Jack Abeillé was a prolific French painter, poster designer, draughtsman, caricaturist and illustrator. As an illustrator he made numerous contributions to magazines and periodicals, such as “La Caricature“, “La Chronique Amusante” and “Parisiana”. He was artistic director of the magazine “Fin de Siècle” and later editor of “Élégances”. Abeillé exhibited at the Salon de Humoristes and was also known for his erotic illustrations.
This advertising poster features both an automobile and a bicycle made by Cottereau & Cie, a company founded by the French cyclist Louis Cottereau. Here, both of Cottereau’s vehicular options are given a promotional share: the bike acts as the preferred ride of a solo excursionist, while the open-air sedan caters for a family affair.
