Automobiles Germain
Lithography on paper
Hendrick Cassiers was one of the more prominent landscape painters of his time. He studied in Belgium, and resided in Brussels, oftentimes traveling to Holland to do his finest work. Cassiers, in his illustrious career, produced marine and landscape fine art, illustrated a number of books, and had outstanding shows in Brussels, London, Paris and Antwerp, his birthplace. No other works of his are known to include an automobile.
The original artwork for this print was produced for Automobiles Germain at Monceau-sur-Sambre and was used for advertising from 1902 through 1904.
Benard in Liège printed the lithograph, as Cassiers was a resident of that city at the time. He rarely accepted commissions of a promotional nature.
The print was copyrighted and disseminated by W.J. van Marken of Brussels in 1902.
